CAREER

The Indian Media & Entertainment industry tells a compelling story with great investment and growth potential. It is now poised to overtake the mad rush for Management and IT sectors. Today, the number of aspirants who wish to make a career in films and the television sector, especially in the field of Editing , is at an all time high. The scope of Editing is ever-widening in this era of technological explosion as a Editor’s horizons are constantly expanding, certainly requiring one to be technically sound and well trained.

It is the Editor who puts together a film or the programme. Wading through the footage of tapes shot by the crew, an Editor arranges it in sequences to make a coherent, crisp programme or film. The fact remains that only half of the film is made in the pre-production and production stage. The rest is made by the editor at his editing table.

He works in close co-ordination with the Producer-Director to edit a programme/ film to give its final, finished form. Editing is a crucial job which goes far beyond matching visuals and sound in accordance with the script. It brings across the labour and effort of the entire team. A good editor can make a critical difference to a programme’s final presentation. It is the editor who adds the music and works on sophisticated machinery to add special effects to make the programme complete and arranges footage for maximum impact on the viewers.

Film and video editors often specialize in certain areas of television or film. They may edit short commercials, music videos, or instructional films. They may do bigger projects such as feature length movies or documentaries. The type of project determines how much work editors will have.

Film editors need extensive academic and professional experience. A few years of training before making enough connections, building up a significant body of work, and being able to start your own editing service is more than common. Interpersonal skills and endurance are key to success in the career.

Beginning with inRs. 6000 to inRs 12000 a budding Editor can move in to the multifigure bracket within months.
